Study on Quantization Tables

  Abstract:
 

   The purpose of this research is to design a quantization table that deter-mines the quality of the reconstructed image when we compress the image with JPEG algorithm.  There are generally various kinds of images.  Therefore, we should use a quantization table that has the char-acteristics of the image in the case of using JPEG algorithm.
    
However, it is difficult to design a quantization table suitable for an image.  Therefore, we decided to divide the characteristics of an image into 3 classes by the constitution ratio of the frequency component, and design a quantization table for each image.  Thus, we obtained better results than JPEG algorithm.
