  Abstract:
Comparative study on tribocharging effect between polyester toner particles and polymer coated ferrite carrier beads in two-component developer is carried out by focusing on the particle size dependence of electric charge for the toner samples coated with or without silicas. Measurement of electric charge and particle size is performed by a modified E-SPART analyzer. In order to study size dependence, several toner samples of different mean diameters are prepared. About three thousands of particles are analyzed by the data processing. From the experimental results the n-th power dependence of diameter of tribocharge is n =2.02 for the particles without silica coating, and is n =1.62 for the particles with silica coating.  Electric charge on the toner particle with silica coating shows to be higher than that without silica coating due to a charge up effect. In the range of diameter,  from 4 $B&L(Jm to 9 $B&L(Jm, the maximum electri c charge of toner is also shown to be approximately limited by discharge in atmosphere on the surface.
