  Abstract:
JRecently a new model was proposed to explain the dependence of triboelectric charging characteristics of two-component developers on toner concentration. According to the model, there are three types in dependence of toner charge-to-mass ratio, q/m, on toner concentration. The dependence of triboelectric charging characteristics on toner concentration is governed by the relative difference of number of charging sites between toners and carriers. The influence of coating materials on carrier surface to toner charge has been studied by the measurement of dependence of toner q/m on toner concentration. JThe results of experiment agree with the proposed triboelectric charge model of earlier studies. It is found that the toner tribocharging characteristics is changed by carrier surface modification. The results of uncoated ferrite carrier are labeled as Type I and uncoated iron carrier are behave as Type II. In the case of silicone coated carrier, the two cases of the triboelectric charging characteristics are expressed. The one is changed from Type I to Type II and the other is still remained at Type I. In the case of fluorine coated carrier, the triboelectric charging characteristics changed from Type I to Type III. It is suggested that the required toner charge system which have image stability and reliability, etc., can be obtained by a choice of the coating materials and treatment conditions.
