  Abstract:
The influence of toner particle shapes and sizes on developing characteristics of nonmagnetic monocomponent toners was studied Five kinds of toners with different particle shapes and sizes were prepared in this study, two irregular, two quasispherical and one spherical ones. The quasi spherical toners were prepared by modifying the irregular toners. The spherical toners were prepared by suspension polymerization. In addition to a conventional irregular toner, another irregular toner made from the spherical toners was prepared because the preparation method and materials of the spherical toners were different from other shape toners.   Characteristics of the nonmagnetic monocomponent developing process was evaluated by properties of the toner layer and development characteristics of the toner layer. Toner mass feed on the developing roller increased with approaching the toner shape to spherical. The spherical toners had the largest charging values among all the toners. The mass of the irregular toner remained on the developing roller after the developing step was more than those of other shape toners even under higher electric developing field. Developing characteristics of fine and quasispherical toners approached the theoretical one. The toner layer consisting of the polymerization spherical toners was developed in proportion to the electric filed at lower electric developing field.
